Pollution Masks

We provide quality pollution masks to protect you against airborne particles. Also known as "dust masks" or "respirators", we also call them "pollution masks" because our main target is air pollution of many kinds. Of course, our pollution masks are highly effective against dust from dirt, waste, fibers, and nearby construction sites, as well as many biological pathogens, but we also address pollution from vehicles and burned matter.

Our pollution masks are designed for these qualities:

  • High quality filters
  • Comfort
  • Good face seal for minimal "inward leakage"
  • Most importantly, filtering of 0.1 PM ultrafine particles (UFP)

"Inward leakage" is due to a mask not sealing your face around the nose and mouth. You can have a mask rated as N99 (to remove 99% of air particles), but if it does not seal your face, so that a lot of air bypasses the mask, then altogether you can be breathing 30% or more of unfiltered air, making your N99 mask essentially as effective as an N70 or less.

For example, many people who wear glasses complain that their face mask causes their eyeglasses to fog up. That's usually because the mask is not sealing around the face, allowing a lot of outward leakage of warm moist air to channel out around the top of the mask around their nose bridge near their eyeglasses. That should be a warning that the mask isn't protecting you a lot due to inward leakage, too. (Some masks reduce this by having a one-way air valve for exhaled air, which can make you unaware of inward leakage.)

The higher the rating of the mask, such as N95 or N99, the more rigid and inflexible the filter for many brands. To try to minimize inward leakage, many masks require strong rubber bands to force the mask to bend and contour the face, which can become uncomfortable, and may still fail to reduce inward leakage sufficiently. Also, they often have a hard metal strip which you are supposed to bend to shape it to your nose, but that is generally not a good seal, and also not comfortable.

Many masks come in just one size, and do not fit the faces of many people, causing major inward leakage and/or discomfort.

If a mask isn't comfortable, then many people will simply take it off.

Our masks aim to solve these problems, and more.

Our pollution mask product line was born out of frustration with masks we had bought and tried. The two main issues were inward leakage and comfort.

We experimented with a lot of designs and settled on ours with these features:

  • A strap to go around the back of the head, not the ears, for comfort, which uses easy "hook and loop" fasteners and is stretchable,

  • Cheap removable filters, so you can use the same well designed mask for months or years, not a cheap mask on your face, and

  • Soft foam rubber around the mask, for both sealing and comfort,

  • Fashionable enough to look normal and blend into crowds, not get attention like some monster out of a Hollywood flick.

The most damaging particles are 0.1 PM because they are small enough to pass through cell membranes as well as pass through the blood-brain barrier and enter your brain. Government regulations on these "ultrafine particles" (UFP) are practically nonexistent.

For example, an N99 mask rated against 2.5 PM pollution can be letting through the vast majority of 0.1 PM, by filtering out 99% of the weight of 2.5 PM particles but not filtering out most of the number of particles. One 2.5 PM particle can weigh the same is 15,000 ultrafine particles of 0.1 PM.

Many simple consumers are walking around believing in a simplistic government regulation, with cheap masks and a carefree attitude, oblivious to what's really going on physically to their brains and body. We suggest you read this website to become better informed, and to better protect your brain and body. After all, you are your brain. Your brain is the most important thing to protect.
